SBS made vignettes of eight stories from Big Story Country and broadcast them on SBS to coincide with the launch of the SBS split regional signal in May 2009.

This project was assisted by the Regional Arts Fund, an Australian Government initiative supporting the arts in regional, remote and very remote/isolated Australia, and the Australia Council for the Arts, the Australian Government’s arts funding and advisory body.

Regional Arts Australia wishes to acknowledge the creativity, passion and determination of Tasmanian artist Rod Westbrook, who passed away on 10 January 2010 after a brief illness.  Rod featured in the story Slices of Life(p36) and the SBS vignette "Rod Westbook".
